SPECIAL TYPES OF PARENTING SUPPORT
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) : SPACE is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety. Parents who participate in SPACE will learn tools to help their child overcome anxiety or related problems. The treatment focuses on changes that parents can make to their own behavior, by responding more supportively to their anxious child and and by reducing accommodations they have been making to their child’s symptoms.
Parent Management Training (PMT) : PMT is a parent-based treatment program aimed at teaching parents specific strategies for managing their child’s challenging behaviors. The focus is on clear communication, positive reinforcement of desired behavior, and consistent consequences for misbehavior. Parents usually participate in PMT without the child present, but the child may be invited to participate in some sessions, depending on the focus of treatment and age of the child.
