Grief & Loss
Many people shy away from talking about grief and loss, which can make this already difficult experience especially isolating and lonely. In addition, processing a loss can be unpredictable and complicated. Contrary to what many people think, grief does usually does not follow a linear path, and there are often secondary losses that add to the challenges.
People often think of grief in response to the death of a loved one. While this is one important aspect of grief, people may experience grief in response to a variety of life experiences, including:
the end of a relationship, separation, or divorce
parental separation or divorce
the loss of a job
life transitions (e.g., child moving away, friends or other loved ones moving away)
changes in identity
grieving the loss of a “normal” pregnancy or family building journey for those who have undergone fertility treatments and/or experienced pregnancy loss
